Richard George Jensen, 83, died Thursday, February 20, 2014.
He was born May 10, 1931, in Warren, MN, to parents George and Lottie (Krolak) Jensen. He graduated from Minnesota State University in Moorhead, with teaching degrees in math and history. He taught High School for 30 years of which 13 years were in Gonvick, MN and 17 years in Cannon Falls. He was nominated teacher of the year two times. He taught Sunday School at Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick and at Vasa Lutheran Church in Vasa.
He married Lorraine Rinkenberger at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston, MN, on October 27, 1951.
He and his family visited many state parks and national parks throughout his lifetime. He and Lorraine traveled in every state in the USA including Hawaii and Alaska. They also traveled in all the Canadian providences bordering the USA and several states in Mexico.
After retirement, Richard and Lorraine backpacked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine, 2,147 miles. They joined a medical team and made five mission trips to Nicaragua with them; they also went on mission trips three times into Mexico with work crews. They were snow-birds for fifteen years, spending time in Texas, Mississippi, and New Mexico.
Richard is survived by his wife, Lorraine, son and daughter, Robert (wife Beth) and Joy, grandchildren, Anna, (husband Mark) Rebekah, Sarah, Maria, and Great-grandson, William and sister Verna.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Raymond, Elmer, Ralph, and William and a sister Luella.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 24, in Alexandria, MN.
