Dolores Wrolstad

Dolores Wrolstad, 91, Kenyon, died Sunday, July 7, 2013 at the Kenyon Sunset Home in Kenyon, Minnesota.

She was born July 4, 1922 in Clark Valley, MN, the daughter of Benjamin and Dorothea (Benson) Holmes. She graduated from Cannon Falls High School and attended Normal School earning her teaching certificate. She began her teaching career at Country School District #137, where she graduated 8th grade. She also taught at several Districts including, Dovry and Sevareid.

She married Joel Wrolstad on November 25, 1942 at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. They made their home in Holden Township where they farmed. Dolores returned to teaching at Nerstrand School District where she taught the 5th grade. During this time she attended Mankato State where she earned her bachelors degree in teaching and later earned her masters degree. She retired from teaching in 1987.

Dolores enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, and gardening. She also loved to read and travel and excelled at crossword puzzles. Throughout her life, Dorothy was an avid learner.

She was a member of Holden Lutheran Church, and was active in ladies aid, Faith Circle and taught Sunday school. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Kenyon Literary Guild, American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by her three children, Roger and Rosalina Wrolstad of Albuquerque, NM, Joel Wrolstad Jr. and Vicky Ekberg of Rice, and Elise Wrolstad and Paul Finholm of Kenyon; nine grandchildren, George (and Katie) Wrolstad, Mark (and Jayme) Wrolstad, Erik (and Vanessa) Wrolstad, Chris (and Kristy) Wrolstad, Nicholas Wrolstad, Josie (and Ryan) Brenny, Ross (and Lark) Ekberg, Isabelle Finholm and Ian Finholm; ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Foss of Cannon Falls, and Carmen Lilleboe of Winter Springs, FL; two sisters-in-law, Helen Holmes of Cannon Falls, and Joann Holmes of Albuquerque, NM; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joel Wrolstad (1999), son, Mark Wrolstad (2000), brothers, Roger and John Holmes, sister, Yvonne Seydel, and infant twin brothers.

Visitation will be at Holden Lutheran Church, Kenyon, Minnesota on Sunday, July 14, 2013 from 1-2 p.m. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 14, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Holden Lutheran Church, Kenyon with Reverend Heather Culuris officiating. Interment will be in the Holden Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Holden Lutheran Church.
