Brian Thomas Mars, 65, Cannon Falls, died unexpectedly at his home Saturday, April 27, 2013.
He was born in San Francisco, CA on June 17, 1947, son of Glenn and Katherine (Barthelmes) Mars.
Brian managed the chemistry lab at Carleton College for 30 years and was active in his church, Riverwood. He lived life to the fullest and had many hobbies and interests. He directed and starred in plays for the local community theater, was an amateur pilot, and loved working on his model trains.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the Navy aboard the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Hornet, as a sonar technician.
He is survived by his wife, Gail Mars; his children Aaron and Amy Mars (Daniel Durdahl); his step-children, Andrew (Sarah) and Adam (Clair) Weichelt; his mother, Katherine Begley; his brother, Richard Mars and his sisters, Karen Rhoades, Celeste Atkinson, and Paulette Kincaid.
Brian was preceded in death by his father Glenn Mars.
His memorial will be held at the Riverwood Community Church, Cannon Falls on Friday, May 3. A visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. followed by the service at 11:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. at Red Rose Cemetery in Waterford Township.
