Merle H. Mattson, 80, Annandale, MN, and long-time resident of Crystal, MN, died peacefully at home on September 25, 2012. Son of Henrietta and Peter Mattson, he was born July 6, 1932 in Zumbrota, MN.
Merle was a veteran of the Korean War Era and was a member of the Annandale Honor Guard. He graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from the U of M in 1960, and was a professional engineer at Honeywell for 36 years.
Parkinson's disease was a big challenge for many years that limited many things in Merle's life, but he continued to enjoy the beauty of the lake and the bounty of a good garden.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Phyllis; daughters Paula of Maple Grove and Linda Ries of Colorado Springs, CO; siblings, Darlene (Donald) Mueller, Cheri Grunzke, Clifford Mattson, Don Mattson (Marlene), Bernard Mattson (Donna), Morris Mattson (Audrey), and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Jim Grunzke, and sister-in-law, Jeanette Mattson.
Funeral services were Saturday, September 29 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Maple Lake, MN. Interment was at Fort Snelling.
