The Randolph Rocket volleyball team started its new season under new head coach Marissa Bonde on a positive note, picking up their first Southeast Conference win. The Rockets beat Spring Grove in three games, 25-22, 25-22, 25-21.
Sami Bey, Kori Friedges and Bianca Stoesz each had seven kills, Kristin Rudeen had three ace serves and 12 assists, Kori Friedges had three blocks, and Karly Friedges had 10 digs.
"The girls came out strong," coach Bonde said. "We had a large group of fans in the stands and that brought more excitement. The girls have been working hard and it showed in their first match. We struggled in the second game with serve receive, and were actually down by seven, but we made adjustments and turned things around for the win.
"This will be a transition year for the Rockets - new head coach and new conference," Bonde continued. "We've played some of the Southeast Conference teams in the past, and they are a much better fit for our school than the larger Gopher Conference teams."
The Rockets host Hope Lutheran on Thursday, and they are at Schaeffer Academy on Tuesday, September 2.
