Anita Freiermuth, Chairperson of the Hall of Fame Committee, announced the winners for the 2014 Miesville Baseball Hall of Fame. Jim "Rocky" Pohl and Bob Caneff are this year's inductees.
Denny Hoffmann, spokesperson for the Miesville Dugout Club, reports on these men about to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Jim "Rocky" Pohl played from 1962 to 1965 in center field. He was a talented runner, with a rifle throwing arm that kept all base runners in check and hit for a high average. He helped Miesville beat a very good Jordan team two out of three to gain entrance into the 1962 MN State tournament. He contributed to the Hastings community by being a volunteer fireman for 20 years and has a son who also was a standout Mudhen and shares the same nickname Pat "Rocky" Pohl.
Bob Caneff played second base and shortstop from 1949-1955. He played with such other Hall of Fame members as Bennie Whipple, Cy Wiederholt, Don Schauer, Don Gerlach, John Conzemius and Jerry Weber. Not only did he contribute as a player but over the years has been an active member at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Habitat for Humanity, Project Share, worked the St. Paul Classic Bike ride for the past 22 years, and has organized National Anthem singers at Jack Ruhr Field for 13 years or 234 home games.
The 2014 members will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Friday Aug. 1, at Jack Ruhr Field in Miesville prior to the Miesville Mudhen/Eagan Bandits game at 8 p.m.
