The Cannon Falls American Legion baseball team split two games last week, beating Zumbrota 6-2 and losing to Kenyon-Wanamingo 2-1.
The Zumbrota win was shortened to five innings because of rain. Carter Dombeck went all five, striking out 10 and giving up three hits.
CF scored four in the 1st to take a commanding early lead. Brock Peterson tripled, and Jonathan Sharot and Peter Haggerty then reached on errors. Braden Hartl had a base hit to drive in a run, Quinton Lindow walked, Jacob Reinhardt was hit by a pitch, and Levi Prestegard walked.
Two more runs scored in the 4th, with Peterson, Sharot, Dombeck and Hartl hitting singles.
"I thought we were in control from the outset," coach Bob Brintnall said. "Zumbrota has a younger team, and they played a little nervous in the 1st inning. We showed our depth."
Against K-W, Cannon scored its only run in the 2nd. Dombeck and Derek Johnson had singles, Prestegard a sacrifice bunt, and Lindow an RBI single.
Lindow was the starter, going 3-2/3 innings. Dombeck took the loss in relief.
"We stranded a lot of guys," Brintnall said. "Both pitchers had some control issues. As always when we travel to Wanamingo we have a hard time winning. It was an entertaining game for the fans."
The last regular season game is scheduled for Thursday, July 10, when Cannon Falls hosts Jordan.
