Bears in two one-run games

The Cannon Falls Bears picked up two key league wins last week, beating the Red Wing Aces 1-0 Friday and the Miesville Mudhens 4-3 on Sunday.

Cannon's only run against Red Wing came in the bottom of the 8th. Keith Meyers reached on an infield single, and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Luke Winchell. Cory Hedeen hit a ball up the middle, scoring Meyers.

Meyers tossed a 5-hit shutout against the Aces, striking out 13. He did not walk a batter.

Hedeen went 2-4 and had an RBI. Meyers, Ryan Brintnall and Chris Nobach also had hits.

Nate Otto went 3-4 and Brandon Voth and Brintnall added two hits each in the win over Miesville. Meyers and Winchell also had hits. Brintnall, Voth, Winchell and Meyers had doubles.

Hedeen got the win in relief of Jared Woodward. They combined to strike out four.

The Bears had a much easier time Wednesday against the New Market Muskies, winning 13-3 in seven innings.

Noah Callister started and went the first two innings, giving up all three runs. Michael Growette pitched five innings of scoreless relief to get the win.

Zeke Williams led with four hits, Brintnall had three, and Nobach, Rich Burr, Voth, Taylor Pagel, Callister, Tyler Boyle-Hoban and Tanner Jackson had one each. Voth had a home run, and Jackson had a double.

The Bears go to River Falls on Wednesday, then host the Randolph Railcats at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 4. They are at Hastings on Sunday, July 6, at 2 p.m.
