Rockets clinch Gopher Conference

by Mike Dalton

The RHS baseball team clinched the Gopher Conference title Saturday, with a 10-0 win over Maple River.

Randolph has no losses in the conference, and all other teams have at least two with only one conference game remaining.

Cody Pirkl got the clinching win, going four innings and striking out eight. He gave up five hits. Nathan Overby struck out three in two innings of relief.

Austin Moorhouse was 3-4 with three runs scored, Pirkl was 2-4 with a triple, Mitch Kimmes 2-4 and Overby 2-4.

One bad inning spelled defeat against New Richland, as the Rockets gave up 12 en route to a 16-6 loss.

Kimmes, Jake Hines, Garrett McAdams and Moorhouse all saw time on the hill. Pirkl was 3-3 with a double, and McAdams and Brady Johnson had doubles.

"It was ugly, one of our worst performances of the year," coach Chris Stanton said. "We just weren't sharp."

The Rockets were at Medford Tuesday. They host Faribault BA on Thursday, are at Cannon Falls on Saturday, and have a rescheduled game at Kenyon-Wanamingo on Monday, May 19.
