Franken K's 15 in win over W-K

by Mike Dalton

The CFHS softball team beat Wabasha-Kellogg last Friday behind a strong pitching performance from Lydia Franken. The final score was 3-0. She struck out 15 of the 25 batters she faced.

"She also made a couple of nice stops with the glove," coach Michael Gunderson said. "She and Becca Vandenheuvel are on the right page at the moment."

Ashly Serres, back from an injury, had two hits. Vandenheuvel, Gabby Heckmann, Brooke Peters, Tatum Pickar and Taylor Eddy each collected one hit.

"We are currently 5-1, and feel good about the start of the season," Gunderson said. "We have room for improvement, but I'm pretty pleased."

The squad was slated to have three games this week, weather-permitting. Tuesday's game with K-M was postponed. Cannon will host Byron on Thursday and go to Goodhue on Monday, May 5.
