The CFHS softball team has started the season with a perfect 3-0 record, and currently sits atop the Hiawatha Valley League.
Win number one came on Monday, April 7, an 11-1 win at Lake City.
Ashly Serres, Becca Vandenheuvel and Brooke Peters all collected two hits, and Lydia Franken and Gabby Heckmann had one each.
Franken got the win, striking out five.
"We hit the ball well, and had quality at-bats," coach Michael Gunderson said. "Defensively we made all the routine plays. We have things to work on, but I'm encouraged by the team's work ethic."
Heckmann went the distance on Thursday, striking out six in a 1-0 win over LaCrescent.
Franken went 2-2, and Serres, Vandenheuvel, Heckmann and Jordan Kasa had one hit each.
"It wasn't our best day offensively, but our defense made it work," Gunderson said. "Our goal now is to improve with each game. An injury to junior Madeline Carlson will create new opportunities for someone; we need to get her healthy."
The winning streak stretched to three on Monday, with a 9-2 win over Triton on a chilly spring day.
Serres, Franken and Heckmann had two hits each, and Vandenheuvel, Peters, Sami Cromer and Tatum Pickar had one hit each. Pickar's was her first as a varsity player; she is in 8th grade.
Franken got the win, battling the weather and the Cobras. She had seven strikeouts, and had a couple of outstanding defensive plays.
"I'm please with the pitching and defense, and have seen some life in our bats," Gunderson said. "We will continue to improve as our next games are against very good competition."
The Bombers are off until Monday, April 21, when they host Rochester Lourdes. They host Kenyon-Wanamingo on Tuesday and Wabasha-Kellogg on Friday, April 25.
