The Cannon Falls High School weightlifting teams had a successful state tournament Saturday, with every lifter receiving a medal.
The JV team took home top honors, and the varsity placed third.
Seven school records were set. Taran Pickar set varsity women's 53 kg. records with a 45 kg. snatch and a 102 kg. total, and Madasyn Hofstedt had a varsity record 86 kg. clean & jerk in the 75 kg. weight class, moving her to #1 on the women's all-time list for that category.
Tatum Pickar set records in the JV 48 kg. class with a 51 kg. clean & jerk and a 90 kg. total, and Andrew Egge set records in the JV 77 kg. class with a clean & jerk of 107 kg. and a total of 184 kg.
Hofstedt took 1st in the 75 kg. class, with Taran Pickar (53 kg. class) and Kallan Wenborg (58 kg.) placing 2nd, and LeeLa Johnson (58 kg.) and Hailey Huseth (69 kg.) taking 3rd. Nick Lorentz was the only varsity lifter for the men, placing 3rd at 62 kg.
In the JV men's meet, Carson Chytracek (69 kg.) and Egge (77 kg.) were 1st, and Yogi Otto (56 kg.) and Bailey Otto (77 kg.) were 2nd.
In the women's JV meet, Riley Meyers (44 kg.) and Tatum Pickar (48 kg.) were 1st, MaKenzie Meyers (53 kg.) was 2nd, and Katie Noble (69+ kg.) was 3rd.
"What a great ending to the weightlifting season!" coach Scott Safe said. "So many huge performances, that I don't really want to single anyone out. But I will say, this is the first time ever that EVERY Cannon lifter medaled. EVERY lifter! And some of those medals were in very hard-fought classes. I think the thing I liked the most was the way the lifters competed. That is what we are trying to achieve when we talk about being 'Bomber Strong' - It's a state of mind, and the squad had it Saturday."
