A cold RHS girls basketball team traveled to New Life Academy Tuesday, and found themselves down 31-14 at the half, in a game New Life won 57-41.
"Too many turnovers in the 1st half," said coach Dennis Trom. "We played better the 2nd half but not well enough to close the gap."
Sami Bey led the team with 16 points and six rebounds, Ashleigh Dralle had seven points and four rebounds, and Carolyn Meyer and Angie Hoey had six points apiece.
Randolph got its first conference win of the season Friday, 61-37 over Faribault BA.
"The girls really came ready to play," Trom said. "We jumped out to an early lead, and built that to 33-24 at the half.
"We pressured BA into a number of turnovers, and we kept them from really getting into any flow on offense."
The 2nd half was more of the same, with the offense starting to click, Trom said. "We shot the ball really well this game, and with our tough defense were able to expand our lead. "It was nice to get our first league win, and hopefully our offense will continue to get better."
Three players reached doubled figures: Bey had 15, Madi Taylor 13 and Abby Meyer 12. Kelsie Jo Endres had seven points and four steals, Carolyn Meyer scored six points, and Dralle had six. The team shot 47% from the field and 40% from the 3-point line.
The Rockets host a holiday tournament this weekend. Grand Meadow and Triton will play Friday night, Dec. 27, at 6 p.m., with the Rockets and Cannon Falls playing after that. The winners and losers square off Saturday, Dec. 28.
