The Cannon Falls High School girls basketball team earned its first win of the season Tuesday, beating Hope Academy 69-2.
Courtney Woodcock and Grace Rutter led the team with 10 points apiece. Callie Loeschke had eight, Maddie Adel seven, Leah Meyers, Maggie Rutter, Hailey Huseth six, Katie Noble and Tayler Banitt five, Ashly Serres four and Anna Rapp two. Noble and Woodcock each had seven rebounds, and Woodcock had four assists.
"It wasn't much of a contest," coach Eric Mace said. "Hopefully it will give us more confidence shooting the ball."
The Bombers played a fantastic game Friday night, Mace said, in losing to Rochester Lourdes 57-43.
"We led 23-22 at halftime, but a run in the second half where Lourdes turned five turnovers into five lay-ups was our undoing," Mace said. "We went from a three point lead to a seven point deficit in about three minutes. The final score was a little inflated with us trying to foul at the end, but most of the game saw a single-digit margin."
Senior Rapp had her best game as a varsity player, with 13 points, six rebounds and three assists. Huseth and Woodcock each had seven points, Noble four, Banitt, Maggie Rutter and Grace Rutter three each, Serres two and Loeschke one.
The girls host Byron Tuesday night. They are at Hayfield Friday, Dec. 20.
