The CFHS volleyball team won its open game in sub-section play, beating Byron in four games, but they then fell in three games to Kasson-Mantorville, the #3 ranked team in the state.
Scores against Byron were 25-13, 28-30, 25-15, 28-26. "In set four we were down 20-9 before coming back to win 28-26. The girls showed determination," said coach Melissa Huseth.
Kill leaders were Katie Noble with 13, Hailey Huseth 12, Carly Broze 11, Mada Hofstedt nine, Lydia Franken seven and Leah Meyers six. Huseth led with 32 assists, and Franken had 29. Becca Vandenheuvel had 35 digs, Caroline Bowen added 20, and Hofstedt had four blocks.
The girls played their hearts out against K-M, Huseth said. "They can walk away knowing the gave 110%. It was a very emotional ending; I love these girls like my own. I have had so much enjoyment watching them compete the past few seasons, and I am thankful I had the privelege to coach them."
Game scores were 17-25, 24-26, 20-25. Broze and Noble each had five kills, Huseth and Meyers had four, and Vandenheuvel, Franken, Anna Nelson and Hostedt had three each. Vandenheuvel had 24 digs, Sami Cromer 11 and Huseth seven. Huseth had 15 assists and Franken had 14.
