Jordan Lundell ripped off an 87-yard kickoff return to start the Wednesday night battle between Cannon Falls and Lourdes, but his touchdown were the only points the Bombers would muster in the 1st half in a 40-20 loss.
The extra point kick was no good, and after Lourdes scored three touchdowns in the 1st half, the halftime score was 21-6.
Rochester scored again midway through the 3rd quarter, before Cannon answered with a 15-yard scoring pass from Hunter Johnson to Alex Bultena. The 2-point pass to Brock Peterson was good, to make the score 28-14.
Johnson would scamper in from seven yards out to start the 4th quarter, cutting the lead to 28-20, but Lourdes tacked on two more scores in the 4th quarter.
"We moved the ball well on offense, and I'm proud of the many guys who stepped up and played in new positions this week," commented coach Josh Hofstedt.
Johnson was the leading rusher, gaining 131 yards on 14 carries, with one score. He also completed 18 of 35 passes for 236 yards and one touchdowns. Bultena caught seven passes for 60 yards and a score, Peterson caught five for 113 yards, and Lundell had five for 58 yards.
Nate Melhouse had 14 tackles and one sack, Austin Noble had eight tackles, Sterling Carlson and Johnson had seven tackles, and Garrett Beach had two tackles and an interception.
The Bombers received the #7 seed in the section, and were at #2 seed Tri-City United Tuesday night. The winner faces either #3 Plainview or #6 Jordan on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m., at the field of the high seed.
