The CFHS volleyball team had a busy last week, competing in two dual matches and at the tough AA Showcase in Burnsville Friday and Saturday.
Cannon beat Pine Island in a dual match Thursday. Scores were 25-21, 25-22, 25-11.
Becca Vandenheuvel had 13 digs, Lydia Franken had nine and Caroline Bowen five. Mada Hofstedt, Carly Broze and Hailey Huseth had seven kills each, and Franken had four. Huseth had 11 assists, Franken 10, and Franken had two ace serves.
"Pine Island was a very scrappy team," coach Melissa Huseth said. "We made quite a few errors in sets one and two, which we will need to fix as the season progresses."
The Bombers lost to a good Kasson-Mantorville team Tuesday night, 20-25, 20-25, 20-25.
"We didn't have an answer to their two explosive outside hitters," Huseth said. "We had a difficult time blocking, which made it tough on our defense. The girls battled hard, and even though we didn't come out on the winning end it was a great match."
Broze had seven kills; Huseth six kills, 10 assists and a block; Hofstedt three kills and three blocks; Katie Noble three kills; Anna Nelson three kills; Franken 12 assists and two ace serves; Vandenheuvel 15 digs; Sami Cromer 10 digs; and Bowen eight digs.
CFHS beat LeSueur-Henderson 25-9, 25-22 to open the weekend tournament, and then beat Concordia Academy by points, 23-25, 25-20. They then lost to Thief River Falls by points 25-21, 19-25, and placed third in pool play.
On Saturday they beat Greenway 25-13, 25-10, but lost their final two matches to place 12th out of 16 teams.
"I don't believe we performed very well," Huseth said. "We beat the team that finished 2nd overall (Concordia), and we should have placed better."
Stat leaders on the day included Franken, nine ace serves; Broze, 34 kills; Franken, 59 assists; Vandenheuvel, 97 digs; and Hofstedt, eight ace blocks.
The Bombers are on the road this week, Tuesday at Goodhue and Thursday at Stewartville.
