Grand slam gives Bears a win

by Mike Dalton

The Cannon Falls Bears picked up two wins last week, one in the league and one non-league.

They beat the Waterville Indians Friday night, with a Taylor Pagel grand slam in the bottom of the 7th being the key blow

In that inning, Keith Meyers reached on a walk, and Rich Burr and Brandon Voth followed with a single and a walk. Pagel's slam gave the Bears a 7-6 lead, and they wound up winning 8-6.

Billy Coakley got the win, and Tyler Quinlan a save. Aaron Stein was the starting pitcher.

Nate Otto, Meyers, Stein, Burr, Voth, Pagel, Luke Winchell, Ryan Brintnall and Braxton Lindow all had one hit, with Pagel collecting five RBI.

Meyers struck out 11 Sunday in a 5-1 win at Lake City, scattering six hits.

A 2-RBI line drive single by Zeke Williams put the Bears ahead in the 2nd inning, and they cruised from there.

Burr and Williams each had three hits, and Meyers, Voth, Pagel and Winchell had one hit each.

The Bears face the Pine Island Pioneers Wednesday night in the opening game of their own home tournament. Games continue throughout the weekend.
