The CFHS softball team opened its 2013 season with a 6-0 loss to Cotter.
Gabby Heckmann threw well and had nine strikeouts in seven innings, but she also gave up nine hits to a good Rambler team.
"Our team defense was shaky," said coach Michael Gunderson. "We committed four errors, and we had a couple of mental errors. We will tighten things up in a hurry as our compact schedule doesn't allow us to get off to a slow start."
Heckmann had two of the Bombers' three hits, and Anna Rapp had one.
"We were missing three starters, and that contributed to a sloppy start," Gunderson said. "We'll be missing some additional starters for the upcoming week due to other school functions. It will be a time to see who can step up and be a contributor."
Cannon played at Hayfield Monday; no information was available.
The Bombers were at Byron on Monday, and they go to LaCrescent Thursday then host Stewartville Friday. They are at Lourdes on Monday and Kasson on Tuesday, May 7.
