Freshman Matt Moskal shot 74 Friday, April 26, to take medalist honors at an HVL match held at Lake City. The team placed 3rd with a score of 380. Lake City won with 351 and Zumbrota had 372.
He was 10 strokes better than the second place finisher, despite taking a triple bogey. Cole Hanson tied for 6th with a 90, Jackson Bahr shot 105, Tyler Melhouse 111, Jack Pickar 117 and Josh Geiken 121.
"It was our first day of live hitting," noted coach Doug Rechtzigel. "It was a great start for Matt, but we need the rest of the team to shake off the rust."
The girls also place 3rd. Maddie Moskal led the squad with a stroke total of 111. Lauren Lecy shot 118, Maddie Adel 119, Callie Loeschke 122, and Taran Pickar and Liz Freeberg also golfed.
Cannon's JV team won with a low score of 209. Lake City had 215 and Zumbrota 236.
Moskal was 7th at a large invitational at Blooming Prairie on Saturday, played in nice but wet conditions. He shot 87, and the team placed 4th out of eight teams.
Bahr and Hanson each shot 94, Addison Bahr shot 107, Bracken Smith 110 and Dalton Tanner 111.
"Everyone on the team stayed late after practice on Monday; they're working hard to get better," Rechtzigel said.
The boys were at Triton Tuesday. They are at Stewartville Monday, and are at home on Tuesday, May 7.
The girls are at Stewartville Monday, May 6, and at home on Tuesday, May 7.
