The CFHS baseball team has started the abbreviated 2013 season with three wins against only one loss.
Cannon opened the season Thursday, April 25, by beating LaCrescent 13-3. They scored in all but one inning, and had two 4-run innings.
Hunter Blakeslee was 1-4 with a double and RBI, Noah Callister 1-2 with a double, Ian Althoff 1-3 with a double and three RBI, Brock Peterson 2-4, Tanner Jackson 3-4 with two doubles and two RBI, Austin Jacobs 1-1 with an RBI, and Bryce Boyle-Hoban 1-1.
Levi Prestegard was the winning pitcher, striking out four in three innings. Jacobs struck out one in three innings of work.
The Bombers split a doubleheader with Zumbrota-Mazeppa Saturday, losing 11-6 and winning 5-2.
Too many free bases were the deciding factor in the loss, with Z-M drawing seven walks off starter Callister and reliever Clay Broze. Broze took the loss, giving up six runs with only one earned.
Callister was 2-3, Peterson 2-4, Jackson 1-3 with two RBI, Garrett Beach 1-1 with a double and three RBI, and Boyle-Hoban 1-3 with a double.
Pitcher Taylor Carlson retired the first six batters he faced in game two, and the Bombers scored five runs in the first two innings to win 5-2.
Blakeslee went 1-2 with a double, Callister 2-3 with a double, Peterson 1-2, Jackson 1-3, Jacobs 1-1 and Broze 1-2 to lead the offense. Carlson struck out six in four innings, and Blakeslee threw two innings.
Prestegard picked up his second win of the season Monday, in a 10-2 win over Pine Island. He struck out three and gave up two earned runs. Jacobs struck out two in two innings.
CF had 16 hits. Boyle-Hoban went 3-4 with an RBI, Peterson 1-2 with an RBI, Callister 1-3 with two RBI, Blakeslee 1-3, Carlson 1-1, Jackson 1-4 with two RBI, Broze 1-4, Derek Johnson 1-1 with and RBI, Beach 2-5 with an RBI, Peter Haggerty 2-4 with an RBI, and Jacobs 2-2.
The Bombers hosted Pine Island Tuesday. They are at home on Thursday against Goodhue and Monday against Lake City; both are doubleheaders. They go to Kasson on Tuesday and Byron on Wednesday, May 8.
