4/25/2013 3:54:00 PM Weather tough on spring sports
by Mike Dalton
"It's been an interesting spring."
So says Mike Haase, athletic director at Randolph High School, in reference to the abnormal spring of 2013.
The Randolph softball team has the distinction of being an undefeated team midway through the month of April - they're 1-0. The Rocket baseball team is 0-1, and those are the only two games played by either Randolph or Cannon Falls so far this spring season.
At last count, Haase has had to contend with nearly 30 postponements or outright cancellations. It's worse in Cannon Falls, where AD Jake Winchell has two additional sports to deal with.
The Gopher Conference, of which Randolph is a member, has made a change to its format, splitting into two divisions. Randolph will be part of the North division, along with Medford, Faribault BA and Waterville. Each team will play division rivals twice, and teams in the South division once. That will reduce the number of conference games from 14 to 10.
Up-to-date schedules can be found for both schools online. For Randolph, the link is http://www.gopherconference.org; for Cannon Falls, it's http://www.hvlconference.org.
