The Randolph baseball team opened its season last Friday, it's first time outside this spring, and lost to United South Central 12-2.
"We misplayed a few fly balls, and hadn't really been able to cover situational plays in practice," coach Chris Stanton said. "I saw some good things; we put the ball on the ball, we just hit it right at people. My biggest disappointment is that our pitchers didn't get ahead of batters and walked too many guys."
Senior Sam Aune was the starting pitcher, and lasted three innings. Jake Hines and Trevor Otte followed him.
Cody Pirkl and Nick Bergstrom each went 1-2, and Bergstrom had two RBI. Sophomore Drew Weidner, in his first start behind the plate, threw out two baserunners.
"It was good to get outside, and now we know a little more about our team and the young players, who I thought did a nice job in their first time on Varsity."
Weather permitting, RHS is scheduled to play at JWP on Thursday, at home Friday against Faribault BA, and at home Saturday against defending state champion St. Agnes.
