CF girls' season ended Thursday

by Mike Dalton

The CFHS girls basketball team played well in their final game of the season, but lost to Dover-Eyota 71-38 in the first round of sub-section play.

Junior Courtney Woodcock led the Bombers with 12 points, and sophomore Leah Meyers added seven. Others in the scoring column were Maggie Rutter with five, Callie Loeschke four, Tayler Banitt three, Katie Noble, Anna Rapp and Erica Berg two, and Grace Rutter one. Meyers and Grace Rutter each had four rebounds.

"The girls played extremely hard!" commented coach Eric Mace. "We couldn't match their scoring ability, but we gave ourselves plenty of opportunities to score. We had 22 turnovers, but against a team that presses all the time we did a nice job. I am excited about what we have coming back; these girls are going to continue to get better."

Dover-Eyota, the #1 seed, faced #5 Rochester Lourdes Tuesday night in the sub-section quarterfinals.

Cannon Falls finished the season with a 1-24 record.
