2/15/2013 11:10:00 AM Bomber dancers reach state for 10th straight year
With a 2nd place finish in high kick and a 3rd place finish in jazz the Bomber Dance Team is heading to State for the 10th consecutive year.
Coach Madi Salisbury is busy planning a strategy to come out on top at the State High Kick competition after a close second place finish at Sections. "This week we are focusing on running our dance, not letting our dance run us," Salisbury said. "Lake City beat us by one rank point and 2 points overall. They had a rock solid, error-free performance. We did not. There were a few slips, a few mistakes. It just goes to show you have to dance your best every time."
Salisbury and the team are focused and determined to use this rare defeat as motivation for the upcoming weekend. "Bertie Charles Forbes said, 'History has demonstrated that the most notable winners usually encountered heartbreaking obstacles before they triumphed. They won because they refused to become discouraged by their defeats,'" Salisbury quoted. "I believe that wholeheartedly. This is the fuel that we need to push us into gear and refocus our energy on what we have been working for all season long-State."
Senior Captain Brekkan Winchell notes, "The season really begins and ends on the State Floor." And that's one of the things Salisbury loves most about Dance Team. "Our regular season has absolutely no impact on our post season. It all comes down to State Prelims," Salisbury notes. "All that matters is qualifying and getting the job done when it really matters. As a coach I strongly believe we needed this to get us moving forward, and I am so excited to see what the Bombers bring to the floor at the Target Center."
The Jazz team is also State bound and Coach Salisbury couldn't be happier. "After only a month of knowing this routine we are headed to the State floor!" Salisbury exclaims. "We have a unique routine and I think that will give us an edge." Salisbury also praised the team for all they have accomplished this season, "Only two of the girls danced Varsity Jazz last year, so for all of those new faces to have their debut on the State floor-that is such an amazing accomplishment."
The Bomber Dance Team will compete on Friday at the Target Center and High Kick will compete on Saturday. Competition starts with Prelims at 11:30 and Finals at 5:30 both days.
