The CFHS boys basketball team picked up a huge HVL blue division win Tuesday, Jan. 22, beating the Zumbrota-Mazeppa Cougars 56-55.
Cannon Falls was down by seven with just over three minutes to go when junior Brock Peterson drained back-to-back 3-pointers, fellow junior Jordan Lundell went the length of the court for a go-ahead layup, and Austin Noble, also a junior, grabbed a crucial defensive rebound at the buzzer to end the game.
Lundell led with 19 points and Peterson added 18. Noah Callister had five total rebounds, Noble four, and Paul Rolfes had five assists and four steals.
The Bombers lost leads in both halves Friday night, and ended up losing to Pine Island 71-69.
CF was down eight with two minutes to play but stormed back to take a 1-point lead, after a 3-point basket by Rolfes, a 4-point play from Peterson and a steal and lay-up by Rolfes. "We just couldn't get a stop on the defensive end," coach Josh Davisson said. "We had the ball in the final seconds and a couple of good looks at the basket, but couldn't get anything down to tie the game."
Rolfes had 16 points, Peterson 15, Callister 12 and Lundell 10; Callister had nine rebounds and Peterson had four assists.
On Monday night the Bombers beat a good Prescott team, 70-65. Callister had a season-high 24 points, Lundell 17 and Tanner Jackson 11, and Callister had 12 rebounds.
The boys are home Friday against Triton, and they travel to Goodhue on Tuesday, Feb. 5.
