The CFHS girls basketball team played its tightest game of the season, but struggled down the stretch in a 58-55 loss to Triton Tuesday, Jan. 15.
"I feel like we outplayed Triton most of the night, but we have to find a way to put the ball in the basket more consistently," coach Eric Mace said. "While we scored a season-high 55 points and had 11 assists, the girls only shot 30% from the field and missed 13 free throws, with most of those coming in the last five minutes. I could tell the girls were pressing to get that first win. We also lost a couple of players to injury, which didn't help."
Grace Rutter, a freshman, led in scoring with 13 points, and Maggie Rutter and Courtney Woodcock both had 10. Katie Noble had seven rebounds, Maggie Rutter five, and Tayler Banitt had five assists.
The Bombers played a Lake City team Friday that had a huge size advantage, and lost 79-29.
"We were shorthanded, missing our post players, and Lake City took advantage inside," Mace said. "They had four girls score in double figures, and we struggled to score inside. Our young team needs to shoot more confidently from the outside."
Cannon was at Zumbrota Tuesday night. They travel to Hope Academy Thursday, then host Pine Island on Friday, Jan. 25.
