The Cannon Falls-Randolph wrestling team had a nice day Saturday, winning three matches at the Park of Cottage Grove tournament.
Cannon Falls beat host Park 38-36, with Clay Broze winning by pin in the final match to pull the Bombers from a 36-32 deficit.
Other winners were Paul Fitterer by pin, Keston Lopez by 17-0 technical fall, Connor Rohr by pin, Roman Wundrow by pin Sterling Carlson by 5-1 decision, and Derek Johnson by pin.
CF beat Blue Earth 39-30, with Gavin Gates, Fitterer, Tyler Wilson, and Wundrow winning by pin, and Carlson, Nathan Melhouse and Broze winning by decision.
The Bombers had an easier time with Tartan, winning 51-24. Gates, Rohr, Wundrow, Devon Zier and Broze won by pin, Fitterer by 18-3 technical fall, Lopez by 14-6 major decision, Carlson by 43-1 decision, and Johnson by 7-5 decision.
The only blemish on the day was a 42-36 loss to Kimball, but even that came down to the final match before being decided.
Fitterer, Wilson and Broze won by pin, Rohr and Carlson by decision, Wundrow by technical fall, and Johnson by forfeit.
Cannon Falls was at a triangular Tuesday at Kasson-Mantorville, where they beat Hayfield 58-15 and lost to K-M 60-10.
The biggest bright spot in the K-M match was Broze's win at 220, where he beat #1 ranked Broc Berge by 8-5 decision. Berge is ranked nationally, and has accepted a scholarship offer to wrestle at a Division I school. Fitterer had the only other win, by 8-0 major decision.
Most of the matches against Hayfield were decided by pin or by forfeit. Winning by fall were Fitterer, Wilson, Rohr, Wundrow, Johnson and Cooper Rohloff. Justin Miest and Broze won by forfeit, Ryan Epps by decision, Hayden Strain by 10-2 major decision, and Bo Schuette by 5-2 decision.
The squad has its first home action Thursday, hosting Triton. They are at Kenyon-Wanamingo on Saturday.
