The CFHS dance team started its season Saturday at the large Chaska tournament, where they placed 6th out of 17 teams. Seven teams in the tourney participated in last season's class "AA" state tournament.
"It was great to hear our name called," coach Madi Salisbury said. "The kids were so excited and proud. It was great to be grouped with some of the most talented teams in 'AA'."
Cannon brought home some great scores as well. Their highest categories were in difficulty, visual effectiveness and creativity. They matched their difficulty of kick scores from last season's state tournament, and beat their 2012 state scores in difficulty of formations and transitions.
"It is always a goal to start off a season like you left off," Salisbury said. "This is the first time that I've been privileged to work with a team that accomplished this. Our performance has plenty of room to improve, so we're optimistic about its potential. The girls absolutely love their routine, and sometimes that can be half the battle. I am so excited to experience this season with such a talented group of athletes."
The BDT will be appearing on the 5 p.m. newscast at Kare 11 on Friday, making a donation to Toys for Tots. Their next competition is Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Eastview Invitational in Apple Valley.
