Zombie Zip Rail is dead

To the editor:

Rep. Jason Lewis has led opposition to $938 million funding that Gov. Dayton has said is crucial to complete Southwest Light Rail (SWLTR). Despite heroic but futile efforts by Klobuchar and Franken, that $938 million is in neither the House or the Senate tax bill. Like the now dead ZIP RAIL to Rochester that Dayton wanted to revive, now SWLTR will finally die when Trump signs the bill without any light rail funding.

This means the top DFL priority of $6 billion for new light rail lines is kaput. No new rail line will ever slice through Dakota County and beautiful Goodhue County, providing no local transit service.

Commissioner Mike Slavik in Dakota County and State Senator Mike Goggin in Goodhue County and Jason Lewis in Congress are the taxpayer heroes, saving us from $6 billion of waste.
