I was saddened to read in the Beacon a couple of weeks ago that there was an event to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. A reformation is taking something that already exists and correcting it, helping it become better. It is to make better by removing faults and defects, which at this time and throughout the church's history have made their way into the church for She is a hospital for sinners.
What Martin Luther began and succeeded in bringing about was a revolution. Christ never promised the church wouldn't go through turbulent times; only that the gates of hell would not prevail against it. In John's Gospel verses 20-26 Jesus prays numerous times that we may be one as He and the Father are one. Christians should be striving for unity. When we celebrate division in the body of Christ, it is a sad day indeed.
