Phil Hammes wrote a letter last week, and I disagree with a couple things he said. It's really too bad he's not on the Council, because we only have one member asking any of the hard questions and several members trying to stifle him. I don't think Hammes took into account that Ron Johnson has received two raises already this year. It is also interesting to note that this paper did not make a big deal out of Johnson's performance review. If you remember, last year an article was printed where he received an almost perfect review. I inquired about that review only to be stonewalled by the "data privacy" laws. (Why brag about it if you won't show us how you came to that conclusion?)
Forest Lake is all "up in arms" because they think paying $150 per capita for police protection is way out of line. In Cannon Falls we pay $244 per capita, yet no one questions that. Look at last week's police report and see just how much real crime there is in Cannon Falls. How can there be 178 calls in town yet the Sheriff's Dept. only wrote one speeding ticket in our part of the County? It's amazing to see what we call crime, isn't it? Maybe there is no crime outside our City Limits! We assisted other Police six times last week. Why doesn't the County assist us since we pay as much for the Sheriff's Dept. as anyone that lives in the County?
Financially our Mayor and Council look really smart these days, because they get a fat check from Invenergy every year for about a half million bucks. The question is, what are we going to do when the money dries up and this Mayor and staff are gone? If Ron Johnson knows so much about finances, why did he have to file for bankruptcy? If he can't handle his finances, why would he care about yours?
Finally, Forest Gump only said one thing that is fitting for this town these days, "Stupid is as stupid does."
