Summers are busy for sun starved Minnesotans, so when a primary falls in August, we often ignore it, which takes away our chance to determine the candidates who advance to the general election in November. There are several local primary contests this year. To see a sample ballot for your specific precinct, go to: myballotmn.sos.state.mn.us/ or the Government Center. Local election information can be found on page two of the ballot.
There are several voting options.
1. You can vote in person on the primary election day, Tuesday, August 12 from 7am-8pm at your polling place. If you are unsure where to vote, go to http://pollfinder.sos.state.mn.us/
2. A new option this year allows you to vote in person nearly every day prior to the August 12 election date. You can vote every weekday during business hours (typically 8am-4:30pm) and Saturday August 9 (10am-3pm) at:
Goodhue County Government Center (rm 208), 509 W 5th St, Red Wing if you live in a township OR
Your local city hall if you live within the city limits of Cannon Falls, Kenyon, Lake City, Red Wing or Zumbrota.
3. If voting in person is not an option, you can request a ballot be sent to you: sos.state.mn.us/ and mail it in prior to the primary.
If you are not registered to vote you can still register at your polling place on the day of the Primary Election, August 12. Check with the Secretary of State or Goodhue County for acceptable registration documents.
Additional information can be found on the Goodhue County website co.goodhue.mn.us/143/Elections or by calling 651-385-3032.
No matter how you do it, be sure that your voice be heard!
