I am writing to voice my displeasure at the attempt by Mayo Health Systems to have the middle of the street vacated that leads right to my house, just in order for them to make another buck. They are millionaires many times over and they do not need to do this to us little people. There is no reason to block off this neighborhood street, other than that is what they want to do, with complete disregard for those of us who live here.
We have put up with the awful and often illegal parking at that hospital for many years and I am looking forward to driving past that block without fear of being hit by another vehicle. Why should I have to now drive three blocks farther to go around that one block? It makes no sense to take out one block in the middle of a 5-block long street.
There are only three through-streets off of Hwy. 19 and closing one of them will cause more congestion on the other two, one of which will be right next to a planned park. The newspaper stated that the council had no major concerns with this. I have a major concern. This is not fair to all of us who live here and pay our taxes, including the massive assessments that were forced on us. The hospital-involved streets were not torn up and rebuilt and assessed at the same time as the rest of our neighborhood, so Mayo did not have to pay for that with their new hospital coming. That should be enough of a break for them.
Please do not allow this ridiculous plot to be carried out.
