THANK YOU Sons of the American Legion Squadron 142 with the support of the American Legion Post 142, American Legion Auxiliary 142, VFW Post 4452 and VFW Auxiliary Post 4452 for your vision of a Veterans Memorial in Cannon Falls. This project was started over 3 years ago with the planning, fundraising and building of the Memorial by many people volunteering their time and talents. The location is a great addition to the Cannon Falls river area and I appreciate the time and money it takes to venture into a project like this. In response to Linda Christensen's letter to the editor on her point of recognizing all veterans; it is a valid one but it is difficult to take on. With the monument having a seal for each branch of the military displayed, that will encompass all vets. When our family heard of the Memorial projects, we sent letters in April of 2011 to Aunts, Uncles, Cousins asking for any donation small or large to help fund the memorial. This is a big project for a small town, time and moneywise, in these economic conditions, but it is great to see it come to fruition. As a future project, perhaps there is a community group who would like to donate their time and talent to research a "roll call" list of veterans' names from Colonel Colvill to the present to be placed at the Memorial. That would make a great addition and help alleviate Ms. Christensen's concern. These projects take many hands to complete.
