I am sharing this story with my fellow Cannon Falls residents so that it never happens again.
My kindergartner was not dropped off at my home the other night. My son and I drove the bus route immediately to find her, as he knew she got on the bus prior to leaving school. I don't know the route, so I guessed. I followed some kids who had been dropped off which led me to my daughter, walking with another little girl and a man I did not know.
Kids, especially this young, SHOULD NEVER be dropped off at someone's house without parental permission. This should never happen again. I never send my kids off not knowing where they are. Six years old is too young for this to happen and is a huge risk.
Those who are placed in important positions such as those driving a school bus are responsible to ensure their safety. My kids are so important to me. I have also been hearing from several children about bullying that continues on the buses; also parents who have had children dropped off farther and farther away from their home because it saved time for the bus route.
I've got an idea. Let's all realize that we are here for each other and not for ourselves and that our kids are a precious gift we have been given. The older I get, I understand that I am my brother's keeper.
I have total forgiveness for the driver. However, I am entrusting two of the most precious gifts I have ever been given into your hands. Please remember that a parent's world would be upside down if they lost a child. Decisions should be based on that premise.
