The dysfunction which seems more common as time goes on is evidence of the bankruptcy of the Progressive ideology. Historians tell us this movement came and went, approximately 1890-1920, but the ideas remain woven into the fabric of American culture. A few basic tenants of this ideology are a worship-like belief in science and its application for the purification of societal structures.
Yes, everything from economics, government, industry, finance, medicine, schooling, theology, education, and even the family can and should be studied, quantified and "improved" through scientific research and application. If that sounds to you another way of saying man becoming the center of the universe you are right.
What it sounds like to me is the words of the prophet Isaiah "How foolish are those who manufacture idols to be their gods...Is this thing, this idol that I'm holding in my hand, a lie?"
It's a new year, why not try something new, like reading the Bible. It is truth about man and if you read the whole of it you will also see the love of God for mankind. Was Christmas too long ago for us to remember what it celebrates...the gift of God's Son to all the world? In Him is true hope for the future.
