7/13/2017 11:20:00 AM Hwy. 52 median work ongoing through Fall
Motorists on Highway 52,will encounter lane closures in several locations south of Coates to north of Cannon Falls beginning Monday, July 10.
The first location for the lane closures will be the inside lane along Highway 52 for Northbound and Southbound traffic south of Coates between 170th Street and 222nd Street.
Expect to see additional lane closures throughout the project area as construction activities progress.
This one-construction season project on Highway 52 between Coates and Cannon Falls is expected to run though the fall of 2017. During that time, there will be multiple access modifications between County Road 46 and County Road 86, installation of several Reduced Conflict Intersections (RCI) and installation of new cable median barriers.
Hwy 52 is a high speed road from Coates to Cannon Falls. Some areas within this region have experienced several crashes with many of them being right angle crashes which historically cause the most severe injuries.
To reduce the risk of this type of crash, MnDOT Metro District is taking a proactive approach by removing median openings and installing Reduced Conflict Intersections (RCI).
Planned work includes closing Hwy 52 cross-median access at Donnelly Ave.; constructing RCIs at Goodwin Ave, Fischer Ave, 250th St, 215th St, 210th St, 190th St, Donnelly Ave. and 180th St. The project also includes adding cable median barriers, guard rails and new lights. Valley Paving was low bidder at $3,956,895. Total cost of the project was estimated at $6.3 million.
Also on Hwy 52, MnDOT is constructing a new bridge over the Little Cannon River south of Hwy 19 and is building a new bridge and interchange at County 42.
