8/20/2014 8:54:00 PM New 52 roadwork to open Monday?

Construction crews were hoping to have the new Hwy. 52 overpass, interchange and frontage roads on the south end of Cannon Falls open on Monday or Tuesday, August 25 or 26, said MnDOT spokesman Michael Dougherty earlier this week.
Crews had hoped to open the two-year long, $14 million project on Thursday, August 21, but were set-back by the heavy rains that fell around Cannon Falls on Sunday, August 17.
Erosion from the rain (reported as great as seven inches in four hours) created some areas that need to be regraded and repacked before final signage could be placed.
The new exit will make connections to a new Goodhue County 24 that will connect to the new Mayo Hospital and Clinic to the east and to the old County 24 to the west.
After the interchange and other roads are opened, crews will work on closing of the Hwy. 52 crossing by the Saratoga and McDonald's and the removal of the lights at that intersection.
New pavement for Hwy. 52 is expected to start later that week from Highview to Hwy. 19. Traffic will be delayed at times during paving.
Goodhue County will be repaving the section of old County 24 from the Saratoga to the new County 24 before it turns it over to Township control, but may wait until 2015 to do that work when heavy construction traffic is fully out of the area.
