3/14/2014 10:13:00 AM Booya is Saturday at Sportsmen's Club
by Sue Sullivan
The Cannon Falls Sportsmen's Club will be hosting their annual Booya this Saturday, March 15, from noon until 9 p.m.
"Booya" (a traditional Belgian soup/stew) comes from an early 1900s misinterpretation of the properly pronounced French word, "bouillon." The reporter covering the community picnic fundraiser for a local school asked what would be served. He wrote what he heard and the word "booya" was born.
The Sportsmen's Club Booya event will feature a rifle raffle for a 270 and an 06. Two drawings will be held for hunting and fishing prizes along with a general raffle.
A Texas Hold 'em Tournament will begin at 7 p.m. An age restriction of 18 years applies once the tournament begins.
Euchre Tournament play (bring a partner or one will be provided) begins at 2 p.m.
The Sportsmen's Club is located at the junction of Cty. 24 and Oxford Mill Road, Cannon Falls, and tickets may be purchased at the door for $7.
The club is open for rental to the public. For additional information, contact Bob at 507-263-3710.
