The Randolph Rockettes dance team had its best performance of the season Saturday, but did not place in the top six in their first appearance at the state class A high kick tournament.
"They were enjoying themselves and didn't let the nerves get to them," coach Melissa Augustine said. "I am so proud of the great season we had, but can't believe it's over already!"
"It was such an honor just to be at the state tournament and perform at Target Center," she continued. "We were also extremely proud to represent Randolph. Several schools wished us good luck as we were walking down to perform, and after we walked by we heard them say 'who was that?' or 'where is Randolph?' We are hoping that people will remember us now!
"We were also very honored to have so many fans come support us, and show that even small towns can have big hearts. We hope that we made Randolph proud and that we are able to return to the state dance tournament again next year! Our main team goal for next season will remain the same: advance to State."
The 2014 trip to the state dance tournament was the team's first-ever, and is only the second time in school history a team has advanced to a state tournament. The football team earned a spot in 1979.
