1/23/2014 12:13:00 PM Hwy. 52 open house meeting is Tuesday
A public open house meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 28, from 5-7 p.m. at the Cannon Falls City Hall Council Chambers to introduce the proposed Highway 52 and CSAH 86 (280th Street) Interchange/Overpass and CSAH 86 (Rochester Boulevard) reconstruction project.
The public will have the opportunity to review the design options, ask questions and provide comments during this open house format.
The purpose of the project is to improve safety by reducing crashes at the intersection. Since 2008, there have been 14 injury crashes and 21 property damage crashes reported at the intersection, including a fatal crash in 2013. Of the 35 reported crashes, 19 have been right-angle crashes.
With increasing traffic levels on Highway 52, it has become harder for drivers to find a gap in traffic to enter the highway. Reconfiguring the intersection to an interchange design is a way to keep traffic moving while improving the safety and efficiency of the highway.
The new interchange is expected to improve safety and keep traffic moving. Dakota County and the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) are cooperating to design and construct a new grade-separated interchange at Highway 52 and CSAH 86 (280th Street/Rochester Blvd), northwest of Cannon Falls. The new interchange will replace the existing at-grade intersection. The project will also include reconstructing 1.3 miles of CSAH 86 (Rochester Boulevard) from Highway 52 to the east county line.
The project includes: converting the existing at-grade intersection to an interchange, an overpass for traffic crossing Highway 52 or making left turns at the intersection, elimination of all turns within Highway 52 active traffic lanes to provide greater safety for through traffic, and reconstruction of CSAH 86 (Rochester Boulevard) from Highway 52 to the east county line.
The Cannon Falls City Hall is located at 918 River Road, Cannon Falls.
