10/31/2013 1:43:00 PM CFHS to stage "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" Nov. 14-17
Cannon Falls High School students will stage a musical, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, on Thursday -through Sunday, November 14-17 at the CFHS Auditorium.
Thursday through Saturday show times are at 7:00 p.m.. A Sunday matinee will be at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students and will be available at the door.
Based on the comic strip "Peanuts" by Charles M. Schulz, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, loosely follows a day in the life of Charlie Brown (played by Matt Lockett) and pals. Those familiar with the comic strip will recognize the characters such as Linus (Braxton Ulrich), Lucy (Hannah Brummund), Schroeder (Matt Breuer), Snoopy (Mary Franz), Sally (Mary Ann McCusker) and many others as they sing their way through Glee Club, a Baseball game, and Suppertime.
Tania Larson Legvold directs a cast of 18 students in the fall musical. She is new to Cannon Falls High School Drama productions, but not new to theater. Legvold has directed for the Northfield Arts Guild: Charlotte's Web, Pump Boys & Dinettes, Mr. Toad's Mad Adventures and The Pajama Game, and has acted on local stages such as the Arts Guild, Paradise Theater in Faribault, as well as in Minneapolis (but that was long ago, she says).
A native of Northfield, her theater background began on the Arts Guild stage but continued in college and well after. She received a BA in theater from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, and has been active in theater wherever she has lived. Most notably, she spent a year in Germany just after college and assisted with a local high school's production of Man of LaMancha. While in California, she was also part of a theater group formed by Walt Disney Imagineering employees who performed several shows and musicals with proceeds going to charity.
When not involved in theater, Legvold works at Just Food Co-op in Northfield. She is married to Mike Legvold, locally known as one of the Band Directors at the school. Their son is 10 years old. (Cannon Falls area residents may remember the pop-tab drive held to benefit Ronald McDonald houses, where the Legvold family stayed when their son was born.) Tania's mother, Annalee Larson, also taught German and English in Cannon Falls several years ago.
"The experience working with Cannon Falls students, faculty, staff and parents has been just great! Last Saturday we had a 'work day' and I was so pleased with the turn-out of kids and families," said Tania. "Putting on a show is a group effort and I feel so happy to have such a supportive group helping get it done. Working with the kids has been terrific too. They are full of good creative ideas and energy."
Tania says people will not want to miss this show. "The kids are doing marvelously, the costumes are colorful and fun, the set, constructed by Doug Anderson, is amazing," said Tania.
