8/23/2013 1:46:00 PM Music and Movies final run of the season
As Music and Movies draws to a close for the season, the fabulous Swing Street returns one last time.
They are a "darn fine" 17-piece big band based in southeast Minnesota with a repertoire including hits from Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Arturo Sandoval, Gordon Goodwin, and many more.
The Cannon Falls Lions Club is sponsoring the First English Lutheran Church youth this season. And, as always, there will be glo-wear to buy from Cannon Falls Library Foundation.
Music starts at 7 p.m. and the movie at around 8 p.m. at the John Burch Bandshell - all free and brought to you by First Farmers&Merchants Bank.
As usual, it is the double feature night. Those who come dressed as a super hero get a free popcorn. Only one per costumed guest.
The Avengers (2012) is the first show. S.H.I.E.L.D. has located the mysterious Tesseract device and the Army's super soldier Captain America. The Tesseract is actually a gateway to an entirely new world called Asguard.
When a mysterious being known as Loki arrives on earth he immediately assumes that he can rule all human beings. But that irks S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury. As Loki escapes with the Tesseract, Nick Fury believes this is an act of war against Earth.
His only hope is to assemble an actual team of super heroes: Dr. Bruce Banner, who turns into an enormous green rage monster known as the Hulk; Tony Stark and his venerable Iron Man armor; Captain America, the Stark Enterprises created super soldier; Thor, the god of thunder, protector of Earth and his home planet of Asguard, and Loki's brother; and Master assassins Hawkeye and Natasha Romanoff.
Together they will become a team to take on an attack that will call them to become the greatest super heroes of all time.
Coming from the B movie vault is Devil Doll (1964). Vorelli is a ventriloquist & hypnotist, with an amazing dummy, Hugo. Vorelli meets and pursues a beautiful heiress (Marianne); he mesmerizes her, and induces a baffling coma. His buxom mistress (Magda) fears he'll dump her for the younger woman, and threatens to expose him. Vorelli tricks Hugo into killing Magda while he's safely elsewhere. Marianne's boyfriend Mark investigates. He discovers another killing in Vorelli's past, of a man called Hugo. The girl wakes from her coma, and announces she will marry the hypnotist. When the triumphant Vorelli tells Hugo his plans for Marianne and a new, female dummy, a final confrontation yields surprising results.
