4/4/2013 10:50:00 AM RHS speech team season is a success
The Randolph High School speech team has had a busy season. After attending seven invitationals and sub-sections last week, many speakers have achieved personal bests along with medals and ribbons.
As a team, Randolph received a third place trophy at Rochester John Marshall and just recently a second place MSHSL plaque at Subsections in Byron.
The team this year consists of 24 students which is down a little from last year, but still an impressive number for such a small district. "There are many 6th graders who are excited about joining the team next year, so we feel our numbers will hold steady or grow which is exciting for our team!" said coach Nicole Erickson.
The major point earners this season were Alicia Ehleringer (Prose) and Carley Mumm (Extemporaneous Reading), who were often finalists at meets and who both earned first place ribbons at Subsections in their categories.
Some other members who had a very successful season so far are Allyssa Sanford (Informative), both at regular meets and subsections, and most recently first year speakers Megan Genung and Chey Weiland who earned second places at subsections in their category. Some other notable first-year speakers were Megan Peine and Raelyn Skog (both Storytelling) who will both be advancing to Sections as well.
All speech members helped bring the team success though, and all members worked very hard this season! Randolph will return to Byron for sections on April 13 with 11 students participating. The team is coached by Nicole Erickson and Kay Willenbring and Team Captain is Jami Kusilek.
