Area residents in Hampton and Douglas Townships should be aware that local fire coverage areas have recently changed.
The Douglas Township Board has voted to reassign Sections 22,23,24,25,26 and 27 from the Cannon Falls Fire Department to the Miesville Fire Department.
These are the sections bordered by Lillehei Ave. on the west, Orlando Ave. on the east, 270th St. on the south, and 250th on the north.
"It became effective in 2013 when the new contracts came into effect on April 1," said Miesville Chief Tom Latuff. "We did have to adjust our budget with Douglas Township a little to cover the cost of the new sections."
Latuff thinks the areas Miesville adopted will benefit the property owners because they can respond faster than Cannon Falls due to those sections being closer to the Miesville Hall.
In Hampton Township, sections 3, 10, 15, 22, 27 and 34 will move from the Cannon Falls Fire Department to the Randolph-Hampton Fire District.
These are the sections bordered by Dakota County 86 on the south, 220th St. on the north, Goodwin Ave. on the east, and Fischer Ave. on the west.
Hampton Township clerk Jeanne Werner says residents may want to notify their insurance agent to see if the new assignment changes their ISO rating with their insurance carrier.
