The Cannon Falls Dance Team Parent Association is selling raffle tickets for their big annual fundraiser. The grand prize is a guided fishing trip at Ballard's Resort in Lake of the Woods. Kale Schwede and friends have already bought their tickets in hopes of winning this year. They visited Ballard's Resort in August 2012 and can't wait to go back.
"We filled a cabin that sleeps six, but it was comfortable," Schwede said. "It was luxurious for a fishing camp-nice bathroom and shower, full kitchen with a large dining table."
Most will wonder why clean and comfortable accommodations are particularly important on a fishing trip at Ballard's, but when you catch your limit every day, it's good to have a nice place to hang out afterward.
"After limiting out on walleyes and sauger, we would go back to the cabin to eat, drink, and watch the Olympics.
"Our guide knew his way around Lake of the Woods-we started catching fish within 10 minutes of dropping our lines in the water," Schwede added. "One of our crew caught his first walleye ever...and then his second...and then his third."
So many walleye were caught that the group had a friendly wager on who would catch the biggest. The lead was 25" for a short time, but was topped more than once with the final winner measuring 27"!
"It still would have been a blast if we didn't catch a thing," Schwede admits. When the crew wasn't fishing or enjoying time in the cabin, they enjoyed the resort's swimming pool, met friends and checked out local nightlife.
Excited to return to Ballard's Resort, Schwede and friends are hoping to win this year's grand prize in the Dance Association raffle. "We have already purchased our raffle tickets, and will be returning to Ballard's even if we don't win." Schwede explains, "Great friends, and a great resort make for a good time no matter what! What a trip!"
This year's grand prize includes lodging at Ballard's Resort and two days of guided fishing for six people. If you are interested in purchasing a raffle ticket, they are available at Cannon Valley Video, Merchants Bank or with any Dance Team member. Tickets are $10 each and the winner will be drawn at the Bombers Dance Team home mini-meet at 7 p.m. on January 31 at Cannon Falls High School. Winners need not be present to win.
