11/8/2012 10:42:00 AM Bomber debate ranked fifth in state
With two-thirds of the debate season behind them, the Bomber debate squad has moved into the ranks of the elite debate teams in Minnesota. The two most recent tournament results have propelled the team into a tie for fifth place in the most recent state debate team rankings. Varsity member, Megan Bauer, is ranked third individually in the state. The team has only three more invitational tournaments before it begins preparing for the Section 3 tournament in January.
Two weeks ago the Bomber squad traveled to Andover for a contest. Although the ACT test took several of its members, Megan Bauer and Sydney Erhardt represented the varsity team. After five rounds of debating, the duo finished in sixth place out of twenty-two teams, behind two duos from Eagan, two from Eastview, and one from St. Paul Academy. They won three of their rounds and lost two. Individually, Erhardt was ranked as fifth speaker and Bauer was seventh in a field of forty debaters.
During this past weekend, the two Cannon varsity teams traveled to Champlin Park for another five-round contest. Although the two Bomber duos had the highest team speaker points in the tournament, they each lost two rounds, one more than the teams from Andover and Eastview, and took the third and fourth place trophies.
Bauer debated with Connor Rechtzigel, her usual partner, for the third position, while Erhardt debated with her partner, Lindsay LaMoore, finishing only one point lower. Individually, Erhardt was the top varsity speaker in the tournament, while Bauer took third place.
This weekend the team travels to Forest Lake for a tournament that may feature as many as thirty schools.
