The Cannon Falls Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) will hold a Book Fair during parent-teacher conferences on Monday and Tuesday, October 15 and October16 from 3:30 to 8.
The PTO is "awarding" Scholastic dollars based on sales. Those Scholastic dollars are given out throughout the year for classroom libraries, or for incentives/prizes for various events for kids or toward programs teachers/staff may run.
Each Book Fair has been providing the PTO with about $2,500 in "Scholastic dollars." "Often parents will stop by after conferences, but it is open to the public and is a great idea for everyone to check out - not a bad idea for Christmas presents!" says PTO event coordinator Kelly Brintnall.
PTO meetings are held the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Elementary library. Next meeting is on October 11. "We love to see parents and community members at these meetings and we really do look for input from everyone," said Brintnall.
The current PTO board members are co-chairs Judy Conway and Melanie Hernke; treasurer Tammy Meyers; secretary Saffron Emerson; Brintnall, Kim Sjoquist, and Tammy Baird are event coordinators; Vicki McGuire is volunteer coordinator.
Among the requests funded last year by the PTO: 4th Grade Apple Tasting Day; File Bins for 2nd Grade; Chair Book Bags for 2nd Grade; Lose a Tooth - Get a Book (Nurses Program); Chair Cushions for 2nd Grade; Special Education Incentive Program Prizes; Healthy Snacks for 2nd Grade store; Donation to School Walk for Diabetes; Giving Tree Project Supplies; Warrior Book Series for 4th Grade; Book in a Bag Program for 1st and 2nd Grade; Markers for Classroom Books; Donation to I Love to Read Month; Math Binders; Music Curriculum Books; Multiple Classroom Organizers and Storage; Supplies for Lions Quest; Chart Stands and Tablets to help with the Daily 5 Reading Concept; Visa Gift Cards for First Grade Classroom Supplies; School Music Lyceum - Michael Monroe; $2,000 Donation to 4th Grade's Eagle Bluff Trip.
